The rivets and ellipses represent constellations and orbits, alluding to the worship of many different types of deities.
Since this shield design was "generic" and intended to be used by many different types of clerics, I focused on a celestial theme instead of a particular deity that granted unique powers.
It was made for the Everquest Omens of War expansion.
This shield also coincidentally looks like Gil-galad's shield from the lord of the rings. Gil-galad was the elven high king of the second age in Tolkien lore. I made the design for this before I saw Gils shield. The similarity of the two designs is a good example of what I will call for now "convergent" creativity. It seems often to me that when you saturate your mind with certain themes and references, it produces at times, very particular results, and obviously Tolkiens world has impacted my subconscious throughout my life.
I will say that the Lord of The Rings Weapons and Warfare book written by Chris Smith had a huge impact on my understanding of weapons, and is a book that I highly recommend to anyone wanting to get started drawing fantasy weapons.
Wow...this is....beautiful. I love the colors and the blue and gold hues in this.
I think it's the combination of that and the overall shape of the shield that make it resemble Ereinion's so feverently. I'm glad you read Weapons and Warefare, it's on of my favorite reference books, I just wish there were more like it out there!
Isn't that book just amaizing! I learned so much from it. And I am very glad that you liked this shield. It was really tuff for me to make because it had so many details that could potentially make it look to busy.
